AREAS OF NYC
Undeniably, accommodation in NYC can be expensive! Since Midtown is the busiest area of Manhattan (Times Square area), you will find plenty of subway stations, shopping, and tourist attractions here. Thus, it tends to be the hub where first-time tourists find themselves.
However, further Downtown (such as SoHo, Tribeca, Chelsea, and Greenwich) are much cooler areas and have a neighborhood feel. Subsequently, these areas tend to be where locals would prefer to hang out. The Meatpacking District is a very trendy area – several nightclubs are here.
I have attached links to each of the hotel’s websites that I mention in this post. I have done this so you can have an overview of the hotel. However, when you are booking, I suggest checking out websites, such as Booking.com and Trivago. You are likely to find better deals on them!
HOTELS: LUXURIOUS
If money is no option then the below list of hotels are some of the most lavish hotels in NYC (we can all dream!)! However, one of the cities’ most iconic hotels, The Waldorf Astoria, is currently shut for renovations.
- The Mark Hotel Upper East Side – close to Central Park
- Four Seasons Midtown (close to Central Park) & Downtown location
- The Plaza Midtown – along Central Park
- The Ritz-Carlton Midtown (along Central Park) & Downtown location
- The Mandarin Midtown – along Central Park
- The St. Regis Midtown – 5th Avenue
- Park Hyatt Midtown – close to Central Park
- The Peninsula Midtown – 5th Avenue
- The Greenwich Hotel Downtown – Tribeca
- Crosby Street Hotel Downtown – SoHo
The below list are luxury hotels too. However, you may find them a little cheaper than the above:
- The Sherry-Netherland Upper East Side – along Central Park
- The Bowery Hotel Downtown – Bowery (by the East Village)
- The Mercer Downtown – SoHo
- The NoMad Hotel Midtown – Flatiron (closed over COVID period)
- Soho House New York Downtown – SoHo
- The Westin NY Grand Central Midtown – Grand Central
- Lotte New York Palace Midtown – Madison Avenue
HOTELS: A LITTLE MORE REASONABLE
All of the below still tend to be quite pricey. However, you might be lucky enough to find a good deal, or you might decide to treat yourself for a few nights:
- Gansevoort Meatpacking Downtown – Meatpacking District
- Ace Hotel Midtown
- The Standard Hotel Midtown – Chelsea
- Refinery Hotel Midtown – close to Bryant Park / Times Square
- SoHo Grand Hotel Downtown – SoHo
- The Roxy Hotel Downtown – Tribeca
- Avalon Hotel Midtown – Murray Hill (closed over COVID period)
HOTELS: REASONABLE
I’m lucky as I have fantastic friends in NYC. Therefore, I have stayed with them several times. However, I have also stayed at the below locations (The Walcott is one of my favorites!). The Hilton can be pricey. However, we were lucky to find a great deal with them one year. Therefore, keep an eye out for some bargains!
- The Hilton Midtown – Times Square.
- The Walcott Midtown – Close to The Empire State / Macys. Free coffee & muffins for brekkie.
- Radio City Apartments Midtown – Close to Radio City / Times Square / Fifth Avenue.
- Row NYC Midtown – Close to Times Square. It was previously more of a budget-priced hotel. However, the hotel was revamped in recent years, therefore, a little pricier but now has a nice bar and food court area.
I haven’t stayed in either of the below locations just yet. However, they consistently receive fantastic reviews online. Also, they are in the center of Midtown.
- Yotel Midtown – two blocks from Times Square
- Pod Times Square Midtown – Times Square
HOTELS: BUDGET
Finally, I have stayed in both of the below budget-friendly hotels. Both were clean and sufficient. The Travel Inn is very central (by Times Square). Also, The Holiday Inn Express includes breakfast and has several great locations around Manhattan.
- The Holiday Inn Express Several locations in Manhattan – I stayed in their Chelsea location and loved this area. It was clean, friendly staff, great location, and included brekkie.
- The Travel Inn Midtown – Hells Kitchen (close to Times Square). Basic but very central. A well-priced brekkie spot can be found right next door to it too. The brekkie spot was never hectic unlike just a few blocks over in Times Square.
